Your Guide

Joseph Aengwo is a keen birder, trained in tour guiding and administration. Joe possesses a diploma in Tourism and Wildlife Management from Moi University, and underwent a Fundamentals of Ornithology course, organized by the Ornithology section of the Nation Museum of Kenya, A Rocha Kenya, and the Tropical Biology Association at Elsamere Field Study Centre, Naivasha. He’s also a member of the Kenya Professional Safari Guide Association, where he’s a bronze medal holder.

Born and brought up in Lake Baringo – a freshwater lake located in the northern part of Kenya’s Great Rift Valley – Joe first acquired his passion for birds at a very young age, and has never stopped chasing after them ever since. He’s dedicated a large amount of his career to field birding – especially in Kenya, Northern Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, and South Ethiopia – and has been leading bird watching trips and safari tours in Kenya was nearly a decade.

Joe is passionate about nature conservation – and is a proponent of eco-friendly tourism, where both communities, the environment, and visiting clients win. He’s participated in the development of a new checklist of Lake Baringo and Bogoria, which was published in 2010. He’s also worked for renowned conservation initiatives such as the Wakuzulu Colobus Trust in South Coast Kenya, and the Diani and Lake Baringo Biodiversity Conservation Group – of which he is the founder.

With our photography tour, you will witness the epic migration of over a million wildebeest and zebra making their way from Kenya to the Serengeti, running the gauntlet of lions, crocodiles, leopards, and more! And of course, the opportunity to photograph ‘The Big Five’ – the lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo – as well as the rest of Kenya’s amazing wildlife.

We offer four types of photographic routes in our tours:

Route 1: The migration trail! This is a 10-day wildlife photography trip that’s fully dedicated to wildebeest migration in the Mara. All 10 days will be based in a tented camp inside the northern part of the Mara, along the edge of the famous Mara River, and clients will fly in and out of the Mara.

Route 2: Big cats, flamingos, and migration – this 12-day trip will take you to the Samburu National Reserve, Lake Baringo, Lake Bogoria, and the Masai Mara Game Reserve. While Samburu and the game reserve will provide you with incredible scenery, where wild drama is played right in front of you, Lake Baringo and Bogoria are excellent locations for bird photography.

Route 3: This 12-day trip follows the migration trail to Ngorongoro Crater, the Ndutu area, and the Serengeti. The biodiversity richness of the Ngorongoro Crater, the birthing area of the Ndutu area, and the southern part of the Serengeti make this safari an outstanding and unforgettable photographic experience.
